Summer on Sale

If you haven't already received this in your inbox...

I thought I'd never see the day. Now I just hope they don't get as good a turn-out as they do for their open bars.

Opening Ceremony Tokyo

Opening Ceremony Tokyo opened today. The new outpost comes as no surprise, especially after it was featured as the country of inspiration for 2008. OC describes their new venture as "an 8-level conceptual department store" in which every floor will have its own individual theme and merchandising that features motifs of "New York and Americana" such as "parks, roof-top decks, classic American homes, Victorian architecture, Santa Fe and Southwestern American craft, Native American designs, and a surreal office setting."

I'm so glad they included the all-American 'surreal office setting' into the new store, nothing pairs as well with lean cut blazers from the Row like hanging files and paper cutters.

And to celebrate the new store Joe Denardo shot a short film with the ubiquitous Chloe Sevigny. I'm not sure how well the film features Sevigny's collection but it does have a somewhat OC vibe.

Fashionista's Have Friends too

Check out our good friend and BMG fan Rachel on Fashionista! Just the other day we both showed up to martinis in the same red lipstick, but she was in bright blue and I in all black!

STREETWALKER

Streetwalker: Fresh Flowers

tracey feith streetwalker two.jpgRachel, 23, Profession: “up in the air”

Got Her: Strolling down Mott, pre-rain.

Stalked Her: Because really, when a dress that bright walks by, you can’t help but stalk - at least with your eyes.

Shot Her: Because nothing says summer like a floral maxi dress and now it feels like summer’s almost over; we had to capture the moment.

She Said: “I love anything full of color - and florals. I never wear black.”

We Say: Thanks for brightening our day!

On Stands Now!

Wink, Wink

Does this compare to the all-black-models Vogue Italia? Do we care? They look gorgeous and they're stealing the scene from all the boring white chicks.

But why are they in front of graffiti? The colors are fabulous and it's great art direction, but I'm getting a weird "black people are from the hood" vibe that the team putting this together probably didn't even bother to really think through. Thoughts?

Self Service Fall/Winter

I recently bought the Spring/Summer Self Service on sale at my favorite magazine store.
I know the season has passed, but I can never resist Mario Sorrenti's unfailingly haunting images and that fantastic coffee-table stature.

The Fall/Winter issue of Self Service is no different, featuring the ubiquitous Raquel Zimmerman in a Lynchian ode to the cruel and unusual.

Zimmerman is photographed tied and gagged, staggering inside coils of rope or pinched by dozens of clothespins.

Notice the first shot in which she staggers in shoes designed by David Lynch in a collaboration with Christian Louboutin from last spring.

Overkill...

Some amazingly bad fashion at, of all places, the premiere of the September issue.

Tory Burch: That bag? Did she steal it from Cher Horowitz?

Hillary Rhoda: I don't know where to start...

Renee Zellweger is going the way of Madonna...

But luckily a couple people looked fabulous.

Caroline Trentini: Flawless. Adorable.

Vera Wang: I want to look like this. All. The. Time.

The Month Of Kate

Seeing that utterly amazing Craig McDean shot of Kate Moss for AnOther reminded of how many September covers she has this year: four. Although, nothing tops the McDean/ Galliano combo.

Russian Vogue (they love their bling and their Balmain long after the rest of us are suffering over-saturation):

W (this reeks of Alex White-still the 70's hair?-but I'm loving the F/W 2009 Prada:

British Vogue (actually love this and find it oh so classy):

Darkness Approaching

A Rick Owens leather jacket is obviously at the top of anyone's most coveted list, hardly original but who can resist those raw folds and draping.

While hardly a satisfying stand-in, Rick Owens diffusion line drkshdw has a very tight and well-constructed collection for fall.

I love the oversized grey dress with the exposed seams and front slit, and the cotton Exploder jacket has the classic Owens shape.

The line ranges from $372- $768 at Oak.

Another Cover (and Another!)

Fall is here, and with it comes the copious covers for every major fashion magazine.

This time Another Magazine has gone the way of V with 4 distinct covers shot by Craig McDean, and although Im still not sure why Katie Holmes or Natalie Portman deserve a slot, I do love Kate Moss in that Galliano.

Anna To Hang With Dave

So curious to watch Anna Wintour on David Letterman tonight. Will she wear her sunglasses? Will she try to wither Dave through sheer force of will? Will she try to pretend she knows how to laugh (I imagine her attempt as a sort if dry expulsion of air that she seems to almost choke on...)?

Presumably she is on the promote The September Issue, but I suspect she actually going on defend Vogue's business practices and dispel the general belief that she isn't quite human.

Tune in.

LD Tuttle for Fall

LD Tuttle does it again, this boot "the Pop," is absolutely perfect for fall.

I love the elastic detailing at the ankle, and the shape is somewhat reminiscent of the those fabulous Balenciaga wedges we always write about, but a bit more wearable.

Don't you just want to stomp around the city all fall and winter in these?
They look like the kind of shoe that would look amazing even when covered in salt stains.

Lou Doillon for Vanessa Bruno

Shots of the new short film Vanessa Bruno made with Lou Doillon for her fall collection have appeared.
Check out that soft 70s focus and those beautiful Birken bangs here.
The entire film premiers September 19.

Object Of Desire
Clu silk pocket tee, $212, at lagarconne.com

Reason #1
We've already seen the silk pocket tank everywhere this summer, but there's something refreshing about seeing it reinterpreted as a sexy little tee.
Reason #2
The extra length in the back hem means it will fit perfectly on your hips in the front and hit a few inches lower in the back, creating the perfect drape when worn with pants.
Reason #3
There is nothing you can't wear with this top. Throw it on over jeans, wear it tucked in the front with a great trouser pant or tulip skirt, or try it belted over a narrow skirt. The possibilities are endless.
Check it out on Stylecaster here.

Dahlings, We're On Vacation...

See you soon. Don't miss us too much. And don't forget to wear sunscreen. Skin cancer is so not fabulous.

When in Paris...

If I were in Paris, I would visit Prada's new pop-up store at Place Beauvau.
The space was designed by Roberto Bachiocci and it is an absolute fantasy, and perhaps the perfect contrast to all those rich red wools and stirrup wellies this season.
Unfortunately it's only open for 5 months, quel domage.
Check out LOVE blog for more...

Missy for Dazed

Dazed and Confused's current issue includes a fantastic spread of Missy Rayder in fall's black body-conscious styles.

There's lots of Phi and Alexander Wang and Rick Owens, plus click here to watch a great video of Missy on set. It's always fun to watch the models move and Missy poses like a pro

Gap Campaign, Part 2

Love me some Freja, but the only Gap jeans I want to wear are Anja's. I can't help but tilt my head and wonder why Carmen Kass has that goofy look on her face. regardless, you have to applaud the gap for always bringing in the big guns on their campaigns.

Gap Fall 2009 Campaign

Not even Du Juan or Maryna Linchuk could make me want to wear a boot cut.
